Faith It Til You Make It

Adjoa Kyei

"Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” - Matthew 17:20.

These famous words of Jesus have been the cornerstone for many sermons, messages, songs and Christian literature over the years. And rightly so! What could be more powerful than the notion that we, as mere humans, have the ability to undertake astronomical feats just by wielding the power of our faith!

The Foundation of Our Faith

But how is that so? What is it that makes our faith so powerful?

We are given the answer in the words of the Apostle Paul to the Romans: "Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ" (Romans 10:17). The reason our faith carries such authority is that the foundation of that faith is the word of God.

"As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth... So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty". - Isaiah 55:10-11

The bible tells us that God's word, encapsulated in the person of Jesus Christ, is unfailing and it never returns to him without accomplishing that for which it was sent (Isaiah 55:11). His word recounts to us the evidence of his love and faithfulness in the past, as well as his promises which are unfolding in our lives now and in the future.

God's Promises for Your Life

When the foundation of our faith is the promises contained in God's word, we can be confident that it cannot fail because it comes with the heavenly seal of approval (Psalm 138:2).

"For your promises are backed by all the honor of your name". - Psalm 138:2

So what are God's promises concerning your life? Do you know what the bible says about that particular issue you are facing? It's time to find out! Know what his word says, believe it, stand on it and get to moving that mountain!
